Dudley Academies Trust Celebrates NHS Healthcare Careers Week

Dudley Academies Trust proudly celebrated NHS Healthcare Careers Week, an immersive and enlightening experience that took place from 6th until 9th May 2025. This unique event offered secondary school learners from Trust-wide schools the opportunity to delve into the diverse world of NHS careers, guided by experts and professionals from the NHS.
Day 1: Exploring NHS Careers
On the first day, learners visited the Black Country and Marches Institute of Technology, where they gained insights into the wide array of career opportunities within the NHS. From medical professionals to cutting-edge tech experts, students were introduced to the vast potential of careers in healthcare.
Day 2: Operating Theatres and Advanced Technologies
The second day was equally exhilarating as learners explored operating theatres and learnt about the latest technologies employed to ensure patient safety. They heard from NHS experts, including Operating Department Practitioners, who provided exclusive insights into their roles and responsibilities.
Day 3: X-Ray, Radiology, and CPR Training
Thursday’s activities focused on the fascinating fields of X-Ray and Radiology. Learners also received hands-on practice in CPR, enhancing their life-saving skills. NHS experts shared their invaluable experiences, inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Day 4: Midwifery Insights
The final day centred around the rewarding field of midwifery. Learners had the opportunity to explore the vital role midwives play in bringing new life into the world and ensuring the health and well-being of mothers and babies, guided by experienced NHS experts.
Closing Ceremony: Celebrating Achievements
The week concluded with a special event celebrating the achievements of secondary school learners. Esteemed guests, including Sir David Nicholson KCB CBE, former CEO of NHS England, Jo Higgins, CEO of Dudley Academies Trust, Diana Martin, CEO of Dudley College, and Rachel Pearce, Workforce Development and Widening Participation Business Partner for the NHS, recognised the students' enthusiastic participation. Special awards were given for Excellent Airway Management, Emergency Care, Careers Ambassador, and Mastering Maternity.
