Strong Ofsted outcome for The Link Academy where “pupils flourish” and have “excellent attitudes to learning”

The Link Academy has been praised by Ofsted as an “ambitious and inclusive school” where “pupils flourish”, following its inspection in May 2026. Inspectors recognised a calm, respectful and supportive school community, where pupils “feel safe at school”, have “excellent attitudes to learning” and benefit from strong pastoral care.

The academy achieved a Strong standard in four inspection areas: attendance and behaviour, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing. Achievement, curriculum and teaching were judged to meet the Expected standard, and safeguarding standards were also met. Achieving four Strong standards is a significant accomplishment, with only a small number of schools across the region achieving so many Strong judgements under Ofsted’s new inspection framework.

A key theme of the report is the strength of The Link Academy’s inclusive culture. Inspectors found that pupils come from a range of backgrounds and cultures and that the school helps them understand and respect each other’s differences. The report says this has created a “harmonious school community where everyone feels accepted”.

Ofsted highlighted the school’s work to support pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, noting that their needs are “accurately and swiftly identified and assessed”. Inspectors also recognised that pupils with SEND access the same ambitious curriculum as their peers and that the school has developed highly effective partnerships with parents, carers and external agencies.

Ofsted also praised the academy’s “very well-thought-out programme” for personal development, which supports pupils to learn about safety, healthy relationships, equality and future choices. Inspectors highlighted opportunities for pupils to build confidence and character through leadership roles, clubs, performances, trips and careers guidance that prepares them well for their next steps.

Emma Edwards-Morgan, Principal at The Link Academy, said, “We are incredibly proud of this outcome because it reflects the school we know every day: a community where pupils feel safe, accepted and encouraged to succeed. As a former pupil of The Link Academy, it is especially meaningful to see Ofsted recognise the ambition, care and inclusive culture that runs through our school. Our pupils show respect, pride and excellent attitudes to learning, and our staff work tirelessly to make sure every young person is supported.”

Jo Higgins, Chief Executive Officer at Dudley Academies Trust, said, “This is a significant achievement for The Link Academy and a powerful recognition of the school’s inclusive ethos. We are especially pleased that inspectors recognised the Trust’s “excellent support” for curriculum, teaching and safeguarding. This outcome reflects the commitment of everyone involved in ensuring pupils receive the education, care and opportunities they deserve.”

Judith Humphry, Chair of the Board of Trustees at Dudley Academies Trust, said, “Trustees are very pleased that Ofsted has recognised The Link Academy’s strengths so clearly. The report captures a school where leaders understand their community, make decisions in pupils’ best interests and create the conditions for young people to flourish. This outcome is a credit to everyone connected with the school and Trust.”
