A brand-new weather station at The Drawbridge is now up and running, creating exciting opportunities for pupils and colleagues across Dudley Academies Trust to explore weather, climate and data in a practical and engaging way.
Carefully positioned to support accurate data collection throughout the year, the weather station records a range of environmental conditions, including temperature, rainfall, wind speed, wind direction and humidity. This gives pupils the chance to see how real-time weather data is gathered, measured and analysed by scientists.
As part of recent transition and induction activities, Year 6 pupils took part in a special lesson at St James Academy, delivered by Ms Yates, Curriculum Leader for Geography. The session introduced pupils to the weather station and its purpose, encouraging them to work scientifically by making observations, asking questions and considering how data can be used to identify patterns and trends over time.
The new resource will support learning across both the primary and secondary curriculum, including climate, seasonal change, data handling and environmental science. It will also help pupils to strengthen their mathematical skills through data collection, analysis and presentation.
Colleagues are encouraged to make use of the weather station as part of curriculum planning, enrichment activities and wider Trust learning opportunities. We look forward to seeing how pupils across the Trust benefit from this exciting new addition, helping to bring weather, climate and data learning to life in classrooms.
