More than 100 families across Dudley Academies Trust primary schools have taken part in a series of online safety sessions designed to help parents and carers support children in the digital world.
Delivered by Paul Townsend, Senior Inclusion and Safeguarding Lead for the Trust, the seven sessions were held across Blowers Green Primary, Kates Hill Primary and Greenfield Primary.
The sessions reassured families that they do not need to be technology experts to help children stay safe online. Instead, parents and carers were encouraged to stay involved, have regular conversations about online activity, model positive digital habits and make sure children know they can ask for help without getting into trouble.
Families also explored practical steps including setting clear household rules, creating a family agreement and using parental controls across smartphones, broadband, social media, games and consoles. During each session, Mr Townsend demonstrated the Internet Matters parental controls tool live, showing families how straightforward it is to find tailored guidance for the devices and platforms used at home.
Helpful links and guidance were shared with everyone who attended and provided as a handout, giving families practical resources to revisit when setting up or reviewing controls at home.
By working closely with families, the Trust is helping to build confidence, encourage open conversations and support children to enjoy the opportunities of the online world safely and responsibly.
