Enhancing our Sports Curriculum

During the Spring Term, our secondary schools had the opportunity to take part in Trust wide sporting events and training sessions. This has included a netball tournament which took place at the Evolve Campus, Dudley College of Technology and a badminton tournament which took place at The Link Academy.

The sessions have been led by Mr Moody, Trust Curriculum Lead for Sport who noted that “it was rewarding to see the learners socialising positively and experiencing a competitive yet friendly atmosphere. It was also encouraging to hear that the programme is emphasising the importance and benefits of school sport in the eyes of the learners”.

A unique feature of our Trust is that it is sponsored by Dudley College of Technology. This enables us to build strong professional partnerships in further education. Mr Moody has worked in collaboration with Mr Edwards, Sports Lead at Dudley College to develop the netball element of enhancing the sports curriculum. This has also included working alongside Vince Morris, an expert Netball Coach who trains the college ‘Nova Netball Programme’. A programme that is accredited to the Netball Super League team Severn Stars Worcester. Mr Edwards stated that collaborations such as this “compliment the curriculum, through expertise coaching from coaches that exemplify best practice”. Mr Edwards also highlighted the school collaboration benefits, such as the opportunity to learn new skills and promote sport and physical activity within the local area.

We are grateful for Mr Moody's work to make these events as accessible as possible to all our secondary schools and for our sponsor in supporting the development of the sports curriculum. Thank you to all colleagues involved in making these events a success. We look forward to the next sporting events during the Summer Term.
