Secondary school learners from across the borough enjoyed a memorable aviation experience organised by Dudley Academies Trust through The Education Exchange West Midlands, in partnership with The Air League.
Held at The Gliding Centre, Husbands Bosworth Airfield, near Lutterworth, the event gave learners the opportunity to discover more about aviation, airfield operations and the skills involved in gliding.
The experience was made possible by The Air League, whose work opens up aviation and aerospace opportunities for young people. Provided at no cost to families, the day was designed to inspire learners, build confidence and introduce them to the wide range of opportunities available within aviation, aerospace and STEM-related careers.
During the day, learners explored how gliders operate, found out more about airfield safety and procedures, and had the opportunity to take part in a glider flight, subject to weather and safety conditions.
The visit reflected the Trust’s commitment to creating memorable, aspirational experiences that help learners dream big, develop new interests and see where their ambitions could take them.

The Gliding Centre is one of the UK’s established gliding clubs and offers young people the chance to experience flight with qualified instructors in a carefully managed environment. Learners received a full safety briefing before any activity took place and were supported throughout the day by experienced aviation professionals.
The Air League, the UK’s leading aviation and aerospace charity, supports young people to explore aviation and aerospace pathways through scholarships, outreach and opportunities that help build future skills and career aspirations.
For many learners, the day offered a first glimpse into the world of aviation and a unique opportunity to try something new, learn from industry professionals and experience the excitement of flight.
